Metier Brewing Company
2022
Metier Brewing Company is one of less than 90 Black-owned breweries in the U.S. (<1% of all U.S. breweries). They approached Conflare for a brand redesign, and I was fortunate enough to be the Art Director at that time. I led the concepting and execution of the final MBC logo, and created the art direction for the final website.
The MBC logo tells the story of the brewery’s founding — the owners are cyclists and met cycling. The flagship location is located in Seattle. And the brewery itself is highly inclusive —with people of all races, gender identities and ages flocking there. They even have (actually good) NA options on tap for pregnant and sober folks. The core theme of the logo is rooted in Afro-futurism, which imagines a peaceful future for Black people (and with a cool high-tech vibe). As such, the hair element in the logo is a gear, the non-winking eye is curiously missing, and the swooping lines nod back to Afro-futurism. The expression on the face is, importantly, peaceful — like someone who has just taken a sip of damn good beer in their favorite brewery at the end of a long week.

Website Direction
In collaboration with my Creative Director, I set up a look and feel for the website with a couple of rounds of client review. As an efficiency step, I created style tiles (organized mood boards) to get us into alignment before diving into mockups.
This is the final style tile direction. It’s bold, unapologetically joyful, and feels inclusive… and fun!
