Flexcar company-wide headshots

2023

Like any start-up, press has been critical for Flexcar — both on the consumer and employee brand side. So when a request came through for leadership headshots, it was critical that they looked professional, smart and innovative.

In preparation for leadership headshots, I created a mood board and style guide. I coordinated the shoot day to give each person 30 minutes for full headshots with lots of options, wardrobe & stylist consultation with our team. I created photoshoot checklists for equipment and process documentation for posing, and then I trained the team on posing different body types and lighting different skin tones for portraits.

I collaborated with the photographer to get a wide aperture to bring focus to the eyes, and I trained the visual designer on editing without over-editing. I recorded tutorials and written documentation for editing.

Results

When we extended leadership headshots to the wider company, we began to see clear results. At a time in the company’s history where we had seen a couple rounds of layoffs, a deeply personal perk like this made a big impact.

Although there was no mandate:

  • 39 employees out of 45 chose a headshot for their slack profile

  • 27 employees out of 45 chose a headshot for their Linkedin profile

General Company Headshots

After we completed leadership headshots for nine people, we got a request for company headshots. Because what we had done for leadership wasn’t scalable for 350 people, I worked with the photographer to adjust our setup to make editing faster. Finally, I tag-teamed edits for the company with the visual designer, who felt confident enough to completely own company headshots with these processes that we set.
